GREEN WEBSITES
How much CO2 do you emit, when surfing the web? Every minute a thousand visitors spend browsing a website an average of about 1.2kg of CO2 is emitted into our atmosphere.
Now, that is not a very large number individually for a website, but if you consider the amount of time you spend on the internet along with everyone else, Online Leaf might be a step in the right direction, when trying to make the web much greener. So help the environment by making your website green!
OnlineLeaf.com is a CO2 neutral website, neutralizing our CO2 footprints and making the use of our engines, as environmentally friendly as possible.
This means we have acquired CO2 quotas, which have been cleared with the state authorities in EU.
If you are interested, please go ahead and read more about CO2 neutral websites.
The standby engine is a project developed to reduce power consumption, when generating and displaying a website, without changing user experience while using the website. This is done by covering the site in a stationary, black color, which hides visual effects making the visitor's computer use less energy generating and displaying these.
It might not seem like a lot of difference, but after all every little bit does count.
To get full control of the way your website can save energy, and master its energy savings, you can follow these simple instructions.
Any website can install the standby engine, and be among the many other green websites which help the environment by reducing their CO2 footprint.
The Online Leaf project develops and markets green website additions, which are easy to use on any website.
The idea is that a lot of small improvements make a large impact if they are spread out on a large enough number of websites, which will hopefully make the web less of a burden to the environment.
Our standby engine is the first of our products to deliver a fully functional and simple way to help your website run requiring less energy to generate. It hides heavy animations, covers the window in dark colors (as these, in many cases are less energy consuming) and pauses heavily running background processes.
If you are using WordPress, just go ahead and download our plugin, activate it and everything should work instantly.
You can also install the standby engine by copy&pasting the following code into the <head> tag on your website... yeah, it's that simple!
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="http://www.onlineleaf.com/savetheenvironment.js"></script>
The script uses jQuery, so if you are using other Javascript libraries with it, make sure to add...
<script>jQuery.noConflict();</script>
... at the bottom of the <head> tag, to avoid conflicts.

Changing the standards of websites' energy consumption is a big task, so we need all the help we can to spread the message.
So how can you help the environment?
We love working to develop new ways to reduce websites' CO2 emissions, but need money for the development and maintenance, so you can also help by donating, so we can afford to keep on fighting for the environment.
